Experience the Wonder of the San Antonio Zoo

Explore the History of The Alamo

Visit Fort Sam Houston Military Base and SAMMC

While you are in town, make sure to stop by the Fort Sam Houston Military Base, designated a National Historic Landmark and one of the Army’s oldest locations. Housing over 900 historic buildings, the base dates back to 1845. Now part of the Joint Base San Antonio and run by the Air Force, there is plenty to explore at historic Fort Sam. San Antonio is also home to the largest military medical center, SAMMC (San Antonio Military Medical Center), with 425 inpatient beds and 32 operating rooms. Formerly the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), the new facility opened in 2011 and is the Defence Department’s only Level One trauma center on U.S. soil.
